Blog Tour Stop & Review: Mortal Enchantment (Mortal Enchantment #1) by Stacey O'Neale

Summary-
Mortal Enchantment spins a unique twist on elemental mythology. This series is not to be missed.”
Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author
In Kalin Matthew's world, elementals control the forces of nature. They are divided into four courts: air, woodland, fire, and water. At sixteen she will leave the life she's built with her mortal mother. Kalin will move to Avalon to rule with her father—the elemental king of the air court. Along the way, she's attacked by a fire court assassin and saved by Rowan, a swoon-worthy elemental with a questionable past.
Worst of all, she learns her father is missing.
To rescue him, Kalin will have to work with a judgmental council and a system of courts too busy accusing each other of deceit to actually be able to help her. But, they aren’t her biggest challenge. With the Midwinter’s Ball only five days away, Kalin must take over her father’s duties, which includes shifting control of the elements—power Kalin has yet to realize.
As Rowan attempts to train her, a war looms between the four courts. If Kalin fails, her father will die and the courts will fall, but the betrayal she’s about to uncover may cost her even more...

Review-
I want to start out by saying the cover wowed me! It is a beautiful cover. This is a great start to a series. If the remainder of the series is this good then the author has a hit on her hands. The story line is solid and smooth and is easy to read and comprehend. It is well written and executed. The storyline never drops or leaves the reader lost.
The heroine Kaitlin is strong and sassy and well written. I fell in love with her right away. She never backs down and she makes me want to read more and more.
The love interest Rown is well written also. He has a sexy eye piercing that really makes him hot. He is easy to follow but i do have to say that reading the prequel will let you in on what Kaitlin doesnt know about him and thats pretty Kool.
If you get the chance and your in the mood for a really good book Please pick up a copy of this book. Its really worth the trip to the local book store. I cant wait for part 2 in this series. It will be awesome as well I'm sure!

And in addition to the 70+ incredible recipes (created by teens, for teens), the book also includes:

A seasonal key that ensures the freshness of the recipes (and a minimal carbon footprint)
Photos for each of the 70+ recipes

Eating locally grown, organic, and cruelty-free food is a laudable goal, but it’s hard to achieve without some help. The Green Teen Cookbook provides that essential assistance. It’s more than just a cookbook: It’s an all-in-one guide for going green and eating well.

Review-
This book is a really neat book. It has recipes from teenagers all over the country. At the top of each recipe is a picture of a teeager with a remark from the teenager. It is definitly teen oriented. The pictures of the foods are colorful and vibrant. They will make you hungry. The recipes are not hard to make they are written for all seasons and they are very yummy sounding. I would highly recommend this book for any teenager who wants to cook. It would make a great gift.

Three Rules by Marie Drake Blog tour stop and Giveaway

Summary-
Hope Wellman has a childhood full of horrific memories, a bone chilling recurring nightmare, and a persistent paranoid sense of being followed that she would rather keep repressed. Is evil reaching from beyond the grave to capture the tattered remnants of her soul once and for all, is it only a machination of her disturbed mind, or is there something happening more sinister than even she can imagine?
Attending the funeral of her abuser is the first step in putting her life back together. She struggles with the fact she never told anyone what happened to her, and that the grave they are mourning over is empty. She'd find it a lot easier to move on and believe in the future if he were in the box, ready to be covered with dirt. She fears the last thread of her sanity has snapped when she sees Lucas everywhere she turns, and can't escape a recurring nightmare. Is her tormentor alive, or is she imagining it? Is her dream triggered by past fears or is it a prediction of the future?

Q&A with Marie Drake, author of Three Rules

1. Tell me how you came to love writing
The first time I remember writing a story was in third grade. When the teacher handed it back to me, she said, "Very well done," and discussed my story with me. I was hooked.

2. What other jobs have you done while working to become an author?
I worked in a motel for several years before I got married. I ran a home daycare for over ten years after I got married. My husband and I became foster parents because of an emergency within my own family, and once it was resolved we decided to continue to foster other children. We fostered fifteen children over a five year period. More often than not we were raising eight children at a time. Currently, I have a small home based online business. I design and sell crochet afghan patterns on my website.

3. Tell me about your book.
I thought about writing this book for years — the setting, the characters, and so forth. I didn't have the time to actually put any of it on paper, however, until my kids grew a little older. The book takes place in a small, fictional town. It's on a lake, like my own hometown. It isn't anything too specific because it is centered on the main character's feelings and state of mind more than the location. It is written from Hope's perspective, the main character. She suffered years of abuse and never told anyone about it for fear that no one would believe her, and later that there would be repercussions within her nuclear family causing her mother and step father pain. She buried all the pain and anger inside, year after year. When her former abuser is pronounced dead in a mysterious boating accident but they don't recover the body, it magnifies her feelings of paranoia and fear. She has recurring nightmares, and she thinks she sees him, feels him following her.

4. What kind of research did you do for the book?
Well, the story is based in a small town, on a lake, so I didn't have to stretch my imagination very far on that. I drew on my own personal life experiences when describing the feelings and emotions of the main character. I survived some things in my childhood that scarred and changed who I was forever. It affected my outlook on life, on the world, and affected my decisions and the way I lived until I was nearly thirty years old. I often wonder how different I would be if they never happened. I have also been a care giver for children who had suffered abuse, which I can't go into detail about for privacy reasons.

5. What's a typical working day like for you? When and where do you write?
I usually get up at 5:30 AM when my husband leaves for work and our four boys are getting ready for school. They are all out of the house by around 6:20, and I sit down with my coffee and write for a couple of hours before I have to start the regular day —answering emails and doing customer service for my online business, cooking, cleaning, laundry, taking care of our dog, Lady Jade. I sit at my desk in my office and write, usually in my pajamas, always with a cup of coffee. I find that is the best time for me. I have tried going back in the afternoons to write a little, but I think my best ideas come early in the morning.

6. What is the hardest part of writing for you?
The hardest part for me is letting others read what I write. Writing it is thrilling, exciting; I am passionate about it. It wasn't until recently my husband convinced me I should let other people read it. To me, it is very personal. It is a piece of me, and when others read it, it doesn't belong to just me anymore. Then it becomes a book, material for random people to pick over, piece apart, and find fault. Accepting criticism is a difficult task, but it is a necessity. I try to do so graciously, and use it constructively.

7.What’s the best thing about being an author?
I have found the best part of being an author is also letting others read what I wrote, when some one enjoys reading it — when somebody else shares the excitement I felt writing the book while they are reading it.

                          8. What advice would you give writers?
Don't give up. Life gets in the way; it may slow you down but it can't stop you if you keep moving toward your goals, even if it is an inch at a time. It can be challenging, but follow your dreams.

9. What question do you get asked the most, and how do you answer that question?
I think the question I get asked the most is "Was it worth it, spending all this time writing a book?" My answer is yes, to me it was worth every moment I spent at the keyboard. I know they are most often speaking financially. That is not how I measure my success. I feel accomplished and proud of finishing something that I set out to do. I feel the most reward when some one enjoys what I wrote.

10. What are you working on now?
I have started writing my next novel, tentatively called Don't Cry For Me. It is another fiction novel that I hope to release in 2014.

Scion of the Sun Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway: Guest post by author Nicola Marsh

Guest Post by Nicola Marsh

BELTANE
I had to extensively research Celtic legends and the calendar to write SCION OF THE SUN. It was intriguing. And discovering the importance of Beltane made my imagination spark.
Technically, Beltane is the Gaelic May Day festival, held on 1st May. It’s one of four Gaelic seasonal festivals, including Samhain, Imbolc and Lughnasadh. Beltane marks the beginning of summer and special bonfires are lit, with the flames said to have protective powers. Fires in households are be doused and re-lit from the Beltane bonfire.
With Holly’s link to Belenus, the sun god, and her affinity for heat, I knew Beltane had to take centre stage in the book.
In SCION OF THE SUN, festival-goers wear white robes made from cambric and crown made from their tree sign. They leave produce offerings (fruit, vegetables and flowers). And they extinguish their candles at dawn, before relighting from Bel’s fire (which never goes out

In the book, Beltane is also where Holly is inducted into the Sorority of the Sun. It’s a big deal. And then it goes horribly wrong…
For a writer, it’s so satisfying when researching one topic (in this case, druids and Celtic legends) sparks an entire plot thread.
I had a ball.

About the Book:
Summary-
When she least expects it, sixteen-year-old Holly Burton’s unremarkable life is shaken to the core. A vision of the mother Holly never knew leaves her questioning everything she believes.
Eager for answers, Holly enrolls at a boarding school for highly gifted students in Wolfebane, New Hampshire. But Holly's complicated life worsens when she accidentally transports to a parallel existence where she's confronted by a dark and ancient evil.
With the help of Joss, a sexy alpha warrior sworn to protect her, and her new BFF, the equally swoon-worthy Quinn, Holly faces her fears and an unlikely adversary in a showdown that is worse than anything she could’ve possibly imagined

About the Author
No Apology From Me
Recently, the Internet has been filled with rumblings about a highly-anticipated book and its unexpected ending. Many loyal readers of Veronica Roth’s DIVERGENT Series were upset when [semi-spoiler alert] the third book ends on a sad twist.
I don’t have anything specific to say about that book series because I haven’t read it. But I do have three things to say about the controversy that followed.
1) Personal attacks against an author are wrong. Always. It’s okay to hate the book, but don’t let those feelings splatter on the writer. If buyers don’t like a product, they just shouldn't buy it.

      2) Personal attacks against other readers with differing opinions are wrong too. When I’m reading a book, the only opinion that matters is mine. I can’t imagine getting mad enough over a disagreement on a book to tweet threats or insults.

Which leads to my last point…
3) I like happy endings. If I know in advance that a book doesn’t have a happy (or hopeful or optimistic or satisfying) ending, I’m not likely to read it. If you want to, fine. But don’t call me stupid, unsophisticated, immature, or any of the other crazy things being said about people who like happy endings.
And because I like to read happy endings, I like to write them too. I want my characters to win. I want them to work hard at a worthy goal and find a measure of success. If I want to saturate myself in sadness and suffering, I can find plenty of that in the real world. I go to books for something better.
I write stories with happy or hopeful or satisfying endings. And I’m not apologizing for that.

The girl next door by Selene Castrovilla Blog Tour & Giveaway

ABOUT THE GIRL NEXT DOOR
eBook Publication Date: May 24, 2013
Two teens are forced to make some very grown-up decisions when one of them is diagnosed with terminal cancer, twisting them into an unpredictable nightmare. Best friends since toddlerhood, Samantha and Jesse grapple with the realization that they are actually in love. What now? Beautifully written while handling a very heavy topic, Castrovilla addresses the universal question: In a world where the worst can strike at any time, how can we ever feel safe?

Review-
I am normally a paranormal romance reader but when i saw the cover of this book it just made me intrigued about the story.  Im glad it did! This turned out to be a love story that will transcend time. i don't have cancer nor do I know anyone that has had cancer so that part of the book was a learning lesson for me. The book is well written and well executed and the storyline draws you in, I was drawn in from page one. It is a young love story that i was drawn into. The main characters are relate able and very believable. The side characters are believeable also. Not once did I catch my self questioning the parenting in this book. If you want a really whole hearted real love story then this book is for you! I highly recommend this book to anyone. It is a nice change from the paranormal genre.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes author of Nobody blog tour & Cover reveal puzzle piece

JENNIFER LYNN BARNES - Stop #1

Life As a Nobody: A Human Anomaly Shrouded in the Supernatural or Just Life in High School?
NOBODY was inspired, in part, by an Emily Dickinson poem. The line “I’m Nobody! Who are you? Are you Nobody, too?” has stuck in my head ever since the first time I read it. I think it’s in part because everyone has felt like a nobody at some point, and in part because for me, one of the most appealing themes in all of fiction is what I would generally describe as “finding your people.” I think that—especially in our teen years, but often as adults as well—it is so easy to feel like we just don’t quite fit anywhere, to feel deeply, fundamentally different, even though everyone else is feeling deeply, fundamentally different at the exact same time. But then one day, you meet someone—a friend or group of people or someone you’re falling for—and all of a sudden, you do fit. You’re all misfits. You’ve found your people. That’s what I think of every time I read the “Are you Nobody, too?” line in that Dickinson poem, and that was the inspiration for this book. What if, I wondered, there was a girl who blended into the background, who felt like no one noticed her, whose parents and teachers and peers never seemed to really hear anything she had to say? What if this girl felt like she would never fit in, like people would never really see her or care about her, like she would never matter… and there was a supernatural explanation? What if, I wondered, she was right? In NOBODY, the basic concept is that some people are born supernaturally unnoticeable. They are incapable of leaving their mark on another person, and that means that they are, by and large, forgotten and ignored. People cannot feel any kind of lasting or strong emotion for them. They’re Nobodies. So you’ve got a girl—Claire—who has no idea that there is a reason her parents are mostly absent, no idea why she has such a hard time making friends, or why no one ever seems to look her in the eye. And then, you’ve got a boy. He knows that he’s a Nobody, and he’s been raised as an assassin—because the perfect assassin is the one no one notices or remembers or fears. In many ways, NOBODY is a book about feeling lonely and different and like you don’t matter. But it’s also about that experience of finding your people. It’s about finding the place where you fit, where you matter, even if you are metaphysically incapable of mattering to the rest of the world.

Grace Doll Blog Tour and Jennifer Laurens interview

                                                      Interview Questions
1. How did you come up with the concept for this book?

After I left college, I worked in the entertainment business as a stand-in on The Love Boat and Dallas, Dynasty and other shows and commercials. I met lots of fascinating people, one of whom was a makeup artist whose son also worked in the business with me. Between that situation and my own experiences with my dad and his wife who worked in the business at the time, I came up with parts of the story for Grace Doll. Originally, I wrote it as a screenplay. Then I wrote it as a women's romance. It went through many drafts and changes before coming into its present form of a YA novel.

2.How did you come up with the names for the characters?
My aunt's name was Grace Doll---a name so different, everywhere she went people asked her about it. I thought it was the right fit for the unusual story of Grace Doll, plus, using her name added a personal touch--something I like to do in all of my books. Brenden came from someone else I know: a neighbor boy I've used in my book trailers. I liked the unusual take on a very common name: Brandon. Through all the drafts of Grace Doll, Rufus Solomon has always been Rufus Solomon and Judy was always Judy.

3.How much are you and the characters alike?
There's always a little bit of me in some of my characters and/or book. Setting, phrases, idiosyncrasies, situations all work their way into my storytelling because my writing is a part of me----an elaborated journal of sorts. My feelings toward my estranged father are very much Brenden's feelings toward his absentee father. Brenden's father worked in show business/my father worked in show business. Some of Grace's qualities I borrowed from my grandmother.

4.Do you read a lot and what are you reading now?
I write first, read second but I try to always have a book handy--right now it's Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller --- a book I've read over and over again it's so well crafted.
5. What made you decide to go young adult?
I avoid writing sex and profanity so YA is a good fit for me, even though I started out writing women's romance.
6. How did the cover come about?
As an indie author I conceive cover concepts and have a team of designers. I loved the idea of the girl in the director's chair. I have lots of resources for actors, and an actress friend posed for the cover. I found some grunge film frames and had my designer take it from there.
7. So what is your next project and when is it due out?
I'm writing a futuristic project and seeing how that feels to me. I wanted to finish it by the end of this year but life takes precedence. Maybe it'll be out next year. Crossing fingers!
8. Do you have a daytime job or are you a full time writer?
I'm a full time writer.
9. How did you get into writing novels and were you worried about peoples reactions to your books?
I started writing when I was in junior high school, then took it up full time when my 6 kids were all in school. I don't worry about what others think of my books, I write for me. I never consider "popularity" or the "commercial" value of something.
10. One last thing do you collect anything personally?
Dolls! Dollhouses ( I have 4 - ridiculous, I know!!) Antique plates.
As an only child, my mom started many collections for me, all of which I still have today.

Dystopian Giveaway Hop

Summary-
A girl goes on an epic journey through a bleak landscape in the first book of this post-Apocalyptic trilogy. Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That’s fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba’s world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on a quest to get him back.
Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. She has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.
Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction.

We have Lani Woodland stopping by for a tour stop today to introduce her new book to us. She has honored us with an interview with a twist. ALL of the answers are quotes from her new book Indelible.

How did you come up with the concept for this book?

“I liked to think the detectives believed me, but I think my talk of seeing ghosts and astral projection had made me seem like an unreliable witness.”
(It started as an X-files fanfic with detectives Mulder and Scully and an homage to the Queen Mary, but that was many versions ago.)

How did you come up with the names for the characters?
“my name means ‘water-lady.” (I researched Brazilian names, and Yara just seemed perfect. Many of the other names I got from friends and family.)

How much are you and the characters alike?
“I have a special relationship with chocolate. When I need it, I need it.” (Enough said.)

Do you read a lot and what are you reading now?
“every movie and book out there” (I read all the time. I just finished ‘Sean Griswold’s Head’ by Lindsey Leavitt, and I loved it.)

So what is your next project and when is it due out?
“I’m still researching that. Read the article.” (There’s no way to answer this with a direct quote, but you can look me up on Goodreads, or read my blog. My next project comes out next year. It is called ‘Pieces of Jade’. Also, ‘Inevitable’ is in the brainstorming stages.)

Do you have a daytime job or are you a full time writer?
“the envelope of pictures, but aside from that, I had nothing else to offer.” (I’m also a photographer, a wife and a mother.)

How did you get into writing novels and were you worried about peoples reactions to your books?
“This is my family business, you know. It’s what we do.” (My mom enjoys writing, my sister is also an author, and I’ve loved writing since I was a kid.)
(As far as my worries about people’s reaction to my book, I found two quotes that seemed to fit.) Answer #1: “The Seagers laughed politely, assuming it was a joke. After a few seconds Mr. Seager frowned. “You weren’t kidding?”

Answer #2: “I imagined his parent’s reaction and shuddered.”

One last thing do you collect anything personally?
“She dumped her stack of books on her desk and collapsed into her chair.”

Author Bio: Lani Woodland has been an avid reader since elementary school when she first discovered the Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley Twins series. In sixth grade she began writing plays and recruiting (with force when necessary) her friends to act them out. Most of these early works were inspired by She-Ra, the epitome of girl power to her young self.
