Summary-
With her signature heart and humor, Julie Halpern explores a strained friendship strengthened by one girl’s battle with cancer.

Alex’s father recently died in a car accident. And on the night of his funeral, her best friend Becca slept with Alex’s boyfriend. So things aren’t great. Alex steps away from her friendship with Becca and focuses on her family.
But when Alex finally decides to forgive Becca, she finds out something that will change her world again—Becca has cancer.
So what do you do when your best friend has cancer? You help her shave her head. And then you take her bucket list and try to fulfill it on her behalf. Because if that’s all you can do to help your ailing friend—you do it.

Review-
I have to be honest---I loved this book from the first page. Lacey Bennett, motherless young troublemaker, is sent to a 'rehabilitation center for troubled teens'. One innocent joyride resulting in the death of her friend causes Lacey's dad and step-mom to send her to the center. Once there, Lacey meets handsome Taylor and begins an epic adventure. I don't do spoilers so I can't be very specific about the book. What I can say is that this isn't the normal troubled teen story. Altered has mystery, romance, sci-fi aspects, and a lot of adventure contained within its deceptively thin pages. Lacey grows into a stronger and more mature young woman as she is faced with some very sobering truths that other teenagers probably wouldn't have been able to handle. She is cut off from her family, hunted by bad guys, and must save the world. The best part is that there will be a SEQUEL which I will be eagerly awaiting!
I thought the book was extremely good. I enjoyed how the character Alex went threw a lot of troubles, yet in the end she realized that life is to short and sudden to waste it with regrets. The plot of the book was a very good concept. It had a good rising and falling actions. I also enjoyed the cause and effect threw out the book with Alex and Leo. Overall I thought this book was a good choice and I would recommend it.
